Dr. James Scramstad
Dr. James Scramstad continues the family tradition started by his father, Dr. Don Scramstad, who founded Straight Smiles in Kelowna in 1981 and practiced for 30 years. After graduating from OKM Secondary, James became a General Practitioner dentist with a focused interest in orthodontics.

Our Story

A Family Tradition
Straight Smiles was started in 1981 by Dr. James Scramstad’s father, Dr. Don Scramstad. When James saw how much joy his father got from building relationships with his patients and giving them healthier, straighter smiles, he was inspired to follow in his footsteps. The father-son duo worked side by side until Dr. Don Scramstad retired and James took the reigns.

Dr. Don Scramstad graduated from the University of Alberta.

Once Dr. Don received a telegram notice (pictured right) that he passed his dental board exams, he started practicing in Kelowna as one of the “original six” dentists in town.

Dr. Don took ownership of the Straight Smiles practice, kicking off decades of providing patients straight smiles.

Dr. Don Scramstad graduated from the University of Alberta.

James, now officially Dr. James Scramstad, graduated from the University of Alberta Dental School with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and joined his father at Align as a General Practitioner dentist offering orthodontics only. They worked together for 17 years from 1996 to 2013!

Dr. Don retired, marking the end of an amazing career filled with healthy smiles and strong bonds with his patients and their families.

This was a year of big changes for the Straight Smiles team! We moved to our brand new office on Harvey Avenue offering our patients a more convenient location and free parking. In an effort to incorporate the newest technology advances, we purchased our third iTero® digital scanner and added 3D printing, allowing us to provide our patients with the most modern, comfortable care.
